Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane reportedly clashes with club president Florentino Perez over his desire to sign Paul Pogba, with Perez preferring Christian Eriksen.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has reportedly clashed with club president Florentino Perez over his desire to bring Paul Pogba to the Bernabeu this summer.

Pogba has been heavily tipped to leave Manchester United during the current transfer window following a tumultuous campaign on and off the field, and Madrid has long been regarded as his most likely destination.

Barcelona and Juventus have also been linked with a move for the France international, but Zidane's desire to bring his compatriot to the club is understood to have put Los Blancos in the driving seat for his signature.

However, Perez is thought to view Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen as his preferred choice given that the Dane's contract expires next year and talks over an extension in North London have stalled.

Eriksen could therefore be available for a cut-price fee this summer, whereas Pogba could set Madrid back up to £160m in addition to other big-money moves for the likes of Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic.

Pogba's wage demands could then take the cost of signing the 26-year-old to around £300m in total - a sum Perez is reluctant to pay when there are cheaper alternatives.

Zidane's return to Madrid earlier this season was thought to be on the proviso that he would have a bigger say on transfers, but he has reportedly already acquiesced to the board over Thibaut Courtois's future at the club.
