Marcos Rojo 'attempting to negotiate free transfer from Manchester United'

Out-of-favour Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is attempting to negotiate a free transfer to Boca Juniors from Old Trafford, according to a report.

Manchester United outcast Marcos Rojo is reportedly on the verge of a move to Boca Juniors, but he will have to force an exit from Old Trafford first.

Rojo finds himself behind the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the Red Devils' pecking order and is expected to move on this month or in the summer.

The 30-year-old can begin talks with foreign clubs after entering the final six months of his Old Trafford deal, and Boca Juniors are supposedly close to bringing him back to his native Argentina.

However, ESPN claims that while the Primera Division side are poised to agree personal terms with Rojo, they are not willing to pay United a fee for the centre-back.

As a result, Rojo would have to negotiate a free transfer away from Old Trafford, where he has only made one appearance for the Under-23s team during an injury-hit 2020-21 season.

Sheffield United, Newcastle United and La Liga strugglers Elche have also been credited with an interest in Rojo, who has made 122 appearances for Man United since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in 2014.
