The FA's general secretary Alex Horne reveals that Sir Trevor Brooking has no problems with any potential candidates for the England job.

The Football Association's general secretary Alex Horne has said that colleague Sir Trevor Brooking has no reservations over any potential candidates for the England manager role.

Reports this week suggested that Brooking and favourite for the post Harry Redknapp did not always get along.

However, Horne, who is part of the quartet who will make the decision regarding the role, said: "As far as Trevor Brooking is concerned he has never expressed a personal reservation about any of the candidates.

"I am not commenting on specific candidates and Trevor's relationship with them, other than to say he hasn't got a problem with any of the candidates."

Horne added that the FA would approach any club first for permission if the candidate is employed.

"I will be absolutely categoric we will go through the front door," he said. "If we make a decision that we are going for a candidate and they are employed by a club, we will go through the front door - but not yet."

The other members of the committee who will appoint the new manager are Brooking, FA chairman David Bernstein and Club England managing director Adrian Bevington.
