Danny Ings wins it for Burnley

Danny Ings scores late as Burnley beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in the Championship at Ewood Park.

Jordan Rhodes had handed the home side a first-half lead, but late goals from Jason Shackell and Danny Ings consolidated second place in the division for the visitors.

Rhodes had the first half-chance after just four minutes when the Blackburn forward angled a clever header towards goal, but Tom Heaton was across to make the save.

Burnley had the ball in the back of the net four minutes later through Sam Vokes, but the offside flag had been raised.

Scott Arfield was next to come close for Burnley on 15 minutes, but his angled header just moved high of the crossbar following smart work from David Jones.

Rhodes had another half-chance after 21 minutes after finding some space on the edge of the box, but his effort flashed wide of the post.

The forward did not have to wait long to make amends, however, as he turned inside the box before striking one into the bottom corner three minutes later.

Ings created Burnley's best chance five minutes before the interval after breaking into the Blackburn box, but Paul Robinson was on hand to make a smart save at his near post.

The hosts almost had their second after 44 minutes when Jason Lowe turned towards goal inside a crowded box, but Ben Mee was across to clear off the line.

Burnley had a penalty shout in the early stages of the second period when Ings went down in the box under pressure from Grant Hanley, but the referee was not interested.

Rhodes had a good chance to score his second after 55 minutes, but the Blackburn forward rattled the post following a pacey forward run.

The away side equalised on 73 minutes when Shackell headed home from close range and six minutes later, Burnley completed the turnaround when Ings found the back of the net from inside the box.

Lowe had a chance to restore parity for the home team in stoppage time when he struck a powerful effort from outside the box, but Heaton was on hand to make a fine save as Burnley collected a vital victory.
