Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba agree to take pay cuts in order for Sergio Aguero to formally register as a Barcelona player for the 2021-22 campaign.

Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba have agreed to take pay cuts in order for Sergio Aguero to formally register as a Barcelona player for the 2021-22 campaign.

Aguero joined the Catalan club in July on a free transfer, after seeing his contract expire with Premier League champions Manchester City.

Club president Joan Laporta revealed in August that Barca are a staggering £1.15bn in debt and have been ordered by La Liga chiefs to reduce their wage bill, in order to comply with financial fair play regulations.

Their financial struggles have prevented Aguero from registering as a Barca player for the new campaign, however the club have now confirmed that both Busquets and Alba have agreed to reduce their salaries, allowing the Argentine to formally sign on.

Barcelona vice-captain Gerard Pique became the first player to agree to a reduced salary, which helped the club announce the registration of Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj.

Aguero is currently ruled out for around 10 weeks with a calf injury, but he could be available to make his debut in mid-October.
