AS Monaco draw hands Paris Saint-Germain Ligue 1 title

AS Monaco draw 1-1 with 10-man Guingamp, allowing Paris Saint-Germain to seal the Ligue 1 title this season.

AS Monaco have been held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Guingamp, handing Paris Saint-Germain the Ligue 1 title for this season.

Dimitar Berbatov had an early chance in the first half for the home side, who had to win to prevent PSG claiming the title, but headed over from James Rodriguez's cross.

Monaco continued to dominate the possession in the opening 45 minutes, but struggled to create chances, while Thibault Giresse had the best chance for the visitors before the break.

Rodriguez and Aymen Abdennour both had efforts saved by Mamadou Samassa in the second half, but Guingamp continued to keep them out.

Elderson almost gave Monaco the lead inside the final 15 minutes, but his header was deflected wide for a corner.

From the resulting set piece, Berbatov was able to rise high in the middle of the box to head in, appearing to give the hosts a lifeline in the race for the title.

However, the visitors finished the match strongly, and were back on level terms just seven minutes later when Fatih Atik fired the ball in from a Mustapha Yatabare through-ball with just five minutes left to play.

Guingamp were reduced to 10 men late on when Mustapha Diallo was sent off for a violent reaction following a foul from Ricardo Carvalho.
