Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Nottingham Forest

Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's injury and suspension news ahead of their Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

Having dusted off their best shooting boots again, Arsenal return to the road to meet Nottingham Forest in Tuesday's Premier League contest.

After returning from a warm-weather training camp in Dubai, the Gunners pummelled London rivals Crystal Palace 5-0 on January 20, where braces from Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli came either side of a Leandro Trossard strike.

Thanks to their annihilation of the Eagles, Mikel Arteta's team are one of three title-challenging outfits sat on 43 points - five worse off than Manchester City - and they are clinging onto a podium position in third place.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with Forest, who were held to a goalless draw by Bristol City in Friday's FA Cup fourth-round showdown.

Declan Rice

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: January 30 (vs. Forest)

Hearts were in mouths at the Emirates when Declan Rice gingerly trudged off the pitch against Palace, and just before being withdrawn, the £105m man signalled to his teammates that he felt pain in his hamstring. Arteta played down the issue as "tiredness" after the game, and there is optimism that he has avoided a serious problem, but his participation in Tuesday's game remains up in the air.

Gabriel Magalhaes

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: January 30 (vs. Forest)

Similarly, Gabriel Magalhaes - who has now been credited with the Gunners' second against Palace - could not complete last weekend's contest due to "discomfort", but he was not seen in training on Thursday and is also a fresh doubt for the trip to the City Ground.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Status: Out
Type of injury: International
Possible return date: Unknown

Takehiro Tomiyasu's Japan have successfully qualified for the knockout stages of the Asian Cup, meaning that the defender will be absent for a little while longer.

Mohamed Elneny

Status: Out
Type of injury: International
Possible return date: Unknown

Similarly, Egypt are still gunning for glory at the Africa Cup of Nations, so fringe midfielder Mohamed Elneny will not be Arteta's disposal at the City Ground either.

Jurrien Timber

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Jurrien Timber was seen working with the ball at his feet in Dubai as he rehabilitates from a long-term ACL injury, but Arteta has confessed that the Dutchman is still "very, very far" from returning to competitive action, and there are no guarantees that he will be back before the season is over.

Thomas Partey

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: January 30 (vs. Forest)

Thomas Partey has returned to full training after recuperating from the most significant thigh injury of his career, which he sustained in October, so the midfielder should theoretically be in with a chance of facing Forest, but he would likely be among the substitutes if so.

Fabio Vieira

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: Unknown

In contrast, Fabio Vieira is still on the mend following his recent groin operation, and while a comeback in the not-so-distant future is plausible, it will not come this weekend.
