Five months on from quitting Little Mix, Jesy Nelson announces that she has signed a solo record deal.

Jesy Nelson has announced that she has signed her first record deal as a solo artist.

The news comes five months after the 29-year-old quit Little Mix citing mental health issues.

Since leaving the group Nelson has been pictured in the recording studio working on new material and now she has confirmed a solo deal with Polydor, rival labels to Little Mix's RCA.

Announcing the deal on Instagram, she wrote: "This is such a pinch me moment. I cannot wait for you guys to hear what I've been working on."

Polydor's co-President Ben Mortimer said in a statement: "As soon as I met Jesy I knew Polydor had to become her label partner. She's developed the sound for her next music beautifully. It's true to her. And she has an authentic vision about what this next stage of her already incredible career should be.

"There's a huge appetite for what music she comes with now, and a huge platform to launch it from. I'm proud she's chosen Polydor to be her new home."

Nelson's debut solo album is expected to be released later this year.
