The South American duo are now through to the quarter-finals of the competition at Wimbledon following their four-hour-20-minute contest which was spread across two days.

They also broke the records for both the highest number of games in total at 63 and the longest set ever, with the third lasting 46 games.

Melo and Soares romped to a 6-1 win in the first set on Tuesday before Berdych and Stepanek levelled the match with a 6-4 victory in the second.

With the third set tied at 18-18, play was abandoned due to bad light.

When the match resumed, both teams continued to hold serve before the Brazilians broke and went on to serve out the final game 24-22.
