Wolverhampton Wanderers remain in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot in League One after securing a comfortable 3-0 win over Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park tonight.

Kevin McDonald's 50th-minute goal proved the difference between both sides for much of the second half, before a late surge by the visitors saw Michael Jacobs and James Henry add a flattering look to the result in the dying stages.

Following a goalless first half, Wolves needed just four minutes after the restart to edge ahead in the contest.

Jacobs led a swift counter-attack for the visitors, executed a neat pass to the advancing McDonald, who clinically slotted past Mark Oxley.

The result was put beyond doubt on 89 minutes through Jacobs, executing a first-time finish following neat build-up play from McDonald, Henry and Sam Ricketts.

Despite little time remaining in the clash, Kenny Jackett's men pushed for further rewards and found one with moments remaining in the contest.

Nouha Dicko cut inside his marker before seeing his effort parried by Oxley, but the 23-year-old could only palm it to the feet of Henry who tucked home the third in the closing seconds.

It remains as before at the top end of the division, with Brentford and Leyton Orient both securing victories to leave the West Midlands outfit two points outside the automatic promotion places in third.
