Preview: Rotherham United vs. Wycombe Wanderers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Rotherham United and Wycombe Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

In search of a fifth consecutive league victory, Wycombe Wanderers make the journey to the AESSEAL New York Stadium for their meeting with Rotherham United on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the home side head into the clash looking to pick up a fourth league win on the bounce, which would see them draw level on points with the visitors.

Rotherham United extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to seven games with a 4-1 victory over Portsmouth on Saturday.

Michael Smith opened the scoring just shy of the half-hour mark before parity was restored four minutes into the second half by Marcus Harness, but Smith grabbed his second of the game in the 55th minute after which goals from Richard Wood and Ben Wiles put the result beyond doubt.

The Millers have moved up to fifth place in the League One table and are now just three points off top spot with a game in hand on current leaders Plymouth Argyle.

Next up for Paul Warne's men is a contest versus an opposing side who they have struggled against in recent meetings between the teams, winning just one of the last 11 clashes dating back to 2008.

However, having scored a combined 11 goals in their last three matches on home turf, Tuesday's hosts will be confident of ending their barren run in this fixture.

Wycombe continued their recent upturn in form with a convincing 2-0 triumph over Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.

Early first-half goals from Anthony Stewart and veteran forward Adebayo Akinfenwa secured all three points for Gareth Ainsworth's men.

The Chairboys are second on the log as things stand, level on points with top-of-the-table Plymouth Argyle having played one game fewer.

Tuesday's visitors, who have suffered both of their league defeats this term away from home, are faced with another stern test on the road in their quest to mount a title challenge.

Team News

Jason McCarthy was on target for the visitors in the last meeting between Tuesday's opponents, and the 23-year-old will be looking to deliver the goods once again.

Despite ending a seven-game goal drought over the course of the weekend, Akinfenwa is likely to drop to the bench for this one with Sam Vokes on course to get the nod right from the off.

Off the back of his two-goal haul last time out, Michael Smith has now scored nine goals in 12 outings this season and is one to keep an eye on.

With the second-best defence in the division, the regular back three of Michael Ihiekwe, Richard Wood and Rarmani Edmonds-Green is expected once again, shielding Viktor Johansson in goal.

Rotherham United possible starting lineup:
Johansson; Ihiekwe, Wood, Edmonds-Green; Miller, Wiles, Barlaser, Harding, Rathbone; Smith, Grigg

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stockdale; Jacobson, Tafazolli, Stewart; Obita, Thompson, Scowen, McCarthy; McCleary, Hanlan, Akinfenwa

We say: Rotherham United 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers

Both sides are on a great run of form heading into the clash and either of them could emerge with all three points come the final whistle. However, we are tipping the home side to come out on top, albeit by only a narrow margin, in what should be a fascinating encounter.
