Roberto Carlos backs Carlo Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti could lead Real Madrid to an 11th European Cup this season, according to former Los Blancos defender Roberto Carlos.

Former Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos has expressed his belief that Carlo Ancelotti could lead Los Blancos to an 11th European Cup this season.

No team in the modern era has defended the Champions League, but Madrid have been tipped to repeat last season's success in Europe by their former left-back.

"Ancelotti is a top class coach and he will find the balance in the team," Carlos told reporters.

"He did it last season and I'm sure this season there will be the Madrid he wants. Whenever you start a season it's normal you have to adjust things, but I'm not worried.

"I have great respect for Ancelotti. Madrid are stronger with him and will be very successful. They've scored 20 goals in four games and that is a success of the players and Ancelotti. He could repeat the achievements of last year and win La Undecima [the 11th European Cup]."

Madrid have won their last four games in all competitions following a below-par start to the season which saw them lose two of their first three league matches.
