Raith Rovers thrash Queen of the South

Raith Rovers cruise to a comfortable 3-0 win over Queen of the South in the Scottish Championship.

Raith Rovers have cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Queen of the South in the Scottish Championship this evening.

Both sides created few chances in the opening 20 minutes, but the visitors were able to take the lead when Mark Stewart blasted the ball into the roof of the net after Mark Millar played it in.

Queen of the South created several chances to double their lead before the interval, but Ian McShane twice fired wide with efforts from outside the box, while Millar drove the ball a fraction high.

Millar was involved again early in the second half when he went for goal straight from a free kick after Jason Thomson brought down Daniel Carmichael, but his curling effort went high.

Raith managed to double their lead late on when Ryan Conroy played the ball through for Stewart, who sliced it into the top corner to claim his second of the evening.

The home side put any doubt to one side just a few minutes later as they added a third when a poor clearance from a free kick left Lewis Vaughan to fire into the bottom corner as he rushed in from the edge of the box.

Barrie McKay could have added a fourth in stoppage time when he tried to power the ball in after a clearance fell to him, but his finish was held by the keeper.

The result leaves Queen of the South just a point clear of fifth-placed Falkirk, keeping them in the playoff places, while Raith remain sixth.
