Jermaine Jenas announces retirement

Former QPR, Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas formally announces his retirement from professional football.

Jermaine Jenas has confirmed that he has officially retired from professional football.

The 32-year-old has been without a club since suffering a knee injury during his time at Queens Park Rangers in 2014.

"I have officially retired," Jenas told Radio 4's Today Programme. "I tried my best to come back from the knee injury but unfortunately that is the end of my career."

Jenas, who has spent the last two years working as a pundit for the BBC, made over 400 appearances in a club career that included spells at Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa. He also earned 21 caps for England, scoring once in a friendly against Switzerland in 2008.
