Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney says that the Red Devils need to let Paul Pogba "move on" this summer.

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has said that the Red Devils need to let Paul Pogba "move on" this summer.

Pogba's contract at Old Trafford is due to expire at the end of June, and he is widely expected to leave the 20-time English champions on a free transfer for the second time in his career.

Rooney has said that it would be the right decision for the France international to seek pastures new, as the midfielder has struggled to make an impact for Man United since returning to the club in 2016.

"It's got to a point now where it's probably better for him to move on," Rooney told Sky Sports News. "I think if Paul is honest with himself, he hasn't had the impact he would have liked since he returned to Manchester United. I watch him play for France and he's a completely different player.

"Ability, his vision, control of the game is there every game for France. It just hasn't quite worked for him at Manchester United. There's a few players they need to let go."

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are all believed to be interested in signing the 29-year-old on a free transfer ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
