Manchester City set aside a fee of £52m to sign Sporting Lisbon youngster Nuno Mendes this summer, according to a report.

Manchester City have reportedly set aside a fee of €60m (£52m) to sign Sporting Lisbon youngster Nuno Mendes during this summer's transfer window.

The 18-year-old, who is with the Portugal squad preparing for Euro 2020, enjoyed an impressive 2020-21 campaign at club level, contributing one goal and two assists in 35 appearances.

A number of clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid, have been strongly linked with a move for the defender in the upcoming market.

However, according to A Bola, Man City are at the head of the queue for the teenager and have 'earmarked' a figure of €60m (£52m) to secure a deal.

The report claims that there will not be a decision on Mendes's future until after this summer's European Championships, but the Citizens are in a strong position to win the race.

The defender still has more than four years left to run on his current deal with Sporting.
