Mohamed Salah's record vs. Manchester United

Ahead of Tuesday's Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester United, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Mohamed Salah's record against the Red Devils.

Liverpool will aim to temporarily rise to the top of the Premier League table when Manchester United make the journey to Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

Jurgen Klopp's side are still chasing the quadruple after prevailing 3-2 against Manchester City in Saturday's FA Cup semi-final, with Sadio Mane (2) and Ibrahima Konate on the scoresheet.

Victory for Liverpool on Tuesday would see them leapfrog City at the summit for at least 24 hours before the champions meet Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday, and Mohamed Salah is no stranger to goals against the Red Devils.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Salah's record against Man United ahead of Tuesday's game.

Salah was scoring goals for fun against most opponents during the 2017-18 Premier League season, but he did not wear his best shooting boots against Man United, as he failed to register a goal or assist in either meeting that year.

The former Chelsea man was also kept quiet by the Red Devils' defence in both Premier League meetings during the 2018-19 campaign, and he was only on the winning side once in his first four meetings with the Manchester club.

After missing the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in October 2019 due to injury, Salah opened his account against the Red Devils at the fifth time of asking in January 2020, scoring his side's second in a 2-0 win after Alisson's spectacular assist.

Salah proceeded to play the full 90 minutes in a drab goalless stalemate at Anfield last term, but he was on target in a 4-2 success at Old Trafford later that year - once again finding the back of the net late on to restore his side's two-goal cushion.

Salah's affinity for Old Trafford goals also saw him bag a brace in the fourth round of the 2020-21 FA Cup, but his efforts were in vain as Klopp's side bowed out following a 3-2 loss.

However, the floodgates well and truly opened for Salah at Old Trafford back in October, as he bagged a phenomenal hat-trick and claimed an assist in a romping 5-0 success to take his total against Man United to seven goals and one assist in nine games across all competitions.

A similar level of ruthlessness would not go amiss at Anfield, where Salah has only scored one of his goals against Man United, but another hat-trick on Wednesday would see him surpass Steven Gerrard as Liverpool's record goalscorer against the Red Devils with 10.

The former Chelsea and Roma man has now gone seven games without a goal for Liverpool in all competitions, though, and he could hardly choose a better time to rediscover a hot streak and add to the 28 strikes he already has to his name this term.
