Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan reveals that he is "relaxed" over his future with the club and hopes to extend his contract.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has revealed that he is "relaxed" over his future with the club and hopes to extend his contract.

The 31-year-old, who has made 240 appearances for the Citizens across a five-and-a-half-year period, will see his current deal at the Etihad Stadium expire in June 2023.

Over the past 12 months, first-team players including Ederson, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Joao Cancelo and Kevin De Bruyne have all put pen to paper on new long-term contracts, and Gundogan has provided a reassuring update for supporters that he could follow suit.

Speaking to German news outlet Bild, Gundogan said: "I am very happy here (at Man City), I love the club and feel extremely comfortable.

"That's why I can imagine staying beyond 2023. I still have over a year on contract and am relaxed."

Gundogan, who was nominated as City's vice-captain by his teammates last summer, has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 30 appearances across all competitions this season.

Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez will also see their contracts expire in 2023, while 36-year-old Fernandinho is out of contract this summer.
