Gerard Houllier: 'Jurgen Klopp ideal for Liverpool'

Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier suggests that Jurgen Klopp is the right manager for the club.

Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has suggested that new manager Jurgen Klopp is a great fit for the club.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach was appointed as Brendan Rodgers's successor last week and earned a goalless draw at Tottenham Hotspur in his first match in charge on Saturday.

Houllier, who managed Liverpool from 1998 to 2004, has claimed that Klopp will do well at Anfield because of his passionate approach to the game.

"Since [Liverpool] decided to part company with Brendan Rodgers, I thought they would be looking for a different type of management," the Frenchman told beIN Sports. "And I'm glad Jurgen has joined because he is very keen on Liverpool.

"He likes the club, he likes the values of the club and I would think he will bring a lot to it. Leadership is a transfer of emotion, and in that case I would say [Klopp] will be good.

"Jurgen is a very emotional man whether he wins or loses, and I think his style of management will fit in well with this squad. It will also match, I would say, the values and probably the enthusiasm of the fans there."

Klopp will take charge at Anfield for the first time on Thursday for the Europa League group stage clash with Rubin Kazan.
