Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Southampton

Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League game with Southampton.

Liverpool will aim to enter the World Cup break on a high note when they welcome Southampton to Anfield for Saturday afternoon's Premier League showdown.

The Reds ended their two-game losing run in the top flight by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 last weekend, with Mohamed Salah scoring a first-half brace before Harry Kane's consolation.

Jurgen Klopp's men occupy eighth spot in the table heading into Saturday's game, and a rotated side needed penalties to beat Derby County in the EFL Cup third round in midweek.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with the Saints, who face a difficult start to life without Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Luis Diaz

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: December 26 (vs. Aston Villa)

Luis Diaz is on the mend after sustaining a serious knee injury against Arsenal last month, and while he has now started running again, the Colombian attacker will not be seen until after the World Cup.

Joel Matip

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: November 12 (vs. Southampton)

Joel Matip was not ready to return from a calf problem in the EFL Cup, but there is a slim chance that the centre-back could force his way into contention this weekend, having now made his return to training.

Naby Keita

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: December 26 (vs. Aston Villa)

Naby Keita was restricted to individual training earlier this week as he battles a troublesome thigh problem, and while the Guinea international is now back running, this game will still come too soon for him.

Arthur

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

Arthur is on the sidelines for the long-term after undergoing surgery on a thigh injury at the start of October, and it will still be a couple of months before the Juventus loanee might return to action.

Diogo Jota

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: Unknown

Diogo Jota is rehabilitating from the serious calf injury he sustained in October's win over Manchester City, and the Portugal international will most likely be out until the spring.

James Milner

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Head
Possible return date: November 12 (vs. Southampton)

James Milner has been forced to miss Liverpool's last two games due to concussion protocol after sustaining a head injury against Napoli, but the 36-year-old should be in contention for his 600th Premier League appearance here.
