Top 10 Liverpool strikers of the Premier League era - #8

Sports Mole's countdown of the top 10 greatest Liverpool strikers from the Premier League era continues with number eight - Ian Rush.

Most of Liverpool's greatest ever strikers pre-dated the Premier League era - including the likes of Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, Ian St John, Roger Hunt and many more - and Ian Rush is right up there with the very best.

No player has scored more goals for the club than the Welshman, who plundered 346 across all competitions during two spells at Anfield, and his status as one of the biggest Liverpool legends of all time is secure.

However, this countdown can only be judged on Premier League achievements, and by the time the new competition came along in 1992 Rush's powers were waning a little.

The prolific frontman still played four seasons for Liverpool in the Premier League, but he failed to score more than 14 goals in any of those campaigns, whereas during his first stint at the club that was his lowest league tally in a full term.

Even so, Rush still scored 45 league goals in 130 appearances between 1992 and 1996, when he joined Leeds United to end a Liverpool career which saw him win 18 trophies including five top-flight titles and two European Cups.
