Brendan Rodgers hails Liverpool's new strip

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers talks up the design of the club's new kit for next season, calling it a throwback to the "defining era" of the 1960s.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed the club's new strip as a throwback to the "defining era" of the 1960s.

The Reds unveiled the kit in their city centre merchandise shop on Thursday evening, and the Northern Irishman explained the thinking behind the latest design.

The Mirror quotes him as saying: "The 1960s was such a defining era for this club.

"Sir Roger Hunt, Ian St John, Ron Yeats, the list of Liverpool FC legends that played under Bill Shankly goes on and on.

"For the players to wear a shirt that has taken inspiration from such a successful period for the club, can act as a reminder that they can bring those glory years back to Liverpool Football Club."

The Reds, who are currently top of the Premier League, host Manchester City on Sunday.
