Hamburger SV stun Augsburg with vital win

Pierre-Michel Lasogga scores twice as Hamburg climb off the bottom of the table with a 3-2 win over Augsburg.

Hamburger SV have climbed off the bottom of the Bundesliga table thanks to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Augsburg.

Bruno Labbadia's side, who started the day four points adrift of 15th spot, made the perfect start by breaking the deadlock in the 11th minute when Zoltan Stieber's effort took a deflection off Ivica Olic to leave Marwin Hitz helpless.

Augsburg's sluggish start continued to offer encouragement to Hamburg, and the hosts doubled their lead in the 19th minute when Matthias Ostrzolek's cross was headed home by Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

Lasogga should have scored his second a few moments later, but he could only head straight at Hitz after being gifted the space to meet a corner.

The marking at the other end was no better as Augsburg hit back through Raul Bobadilla, who found it far too easy to head the ball in from a Tobias Werner free kick.

Augsburg looked threatening either side of the interval, but they were fortunate not to fall further behind when Rafael van der Vaart found the space to sting Hitz's hands.

However, the visitors managed to get back on level terms when Pierre Hojbjerg earned space for himself before picking out Werner, who fired past Rene Adler.

Hamburg responded well to regain the lead less then two minutes later when Stieber headed the ball on to allow Lasogga to find the back of the net for the second time.

Marcell Jansen was inches away from adding a fourth when he found the space to rattle the post from a promising position in the box.

An inevitable spell of pressure arrived from Augsburg, but Adler's fine save from Ji Dong-won proved to be important late on as the hosts secured three vital points.
