Paul Clement praises defensive display in win over Hull City

Paul Clement praises Derby County for their defensive display in the 2-0 victory over Hull City.

Paul Clement has admitted to being delighted with Derby County's defensive performance in the 2-0 victory over Hull City.

Jacob Butterfield scored both goals at the KC Stadium as Derby produced a clinical display to replace Hull at the top of the Championship.

After seeing Butterfield's brace hand his side control in the first half, Clement was keen to praise his side for how they protected their advantage when Hull applied pressure.

"Obviously we're all delighted. It was a hard-fought game. At 2-0 Scott Carson made a wonderful save, but I think I was particularly pleased with the way we defended," the Rams boss told Sky Sports News.

"Although they had a couple of good chances in the second half our defending away from home against a high-scoring team is a big positive - also to come away and score two against the tightest defence in the Championship.

"We're a good football team but we've got a lot of other qualities. We defend together, attack together and those qualities really came through tonight."

Derby could be knocked off the top of the table by Brighton & Hove Albion, Middlesbrough or Burnley at the weekend.
