The postponement of football in England could allow Liverpool to set a new Premier League record for the length of time spent at the top of the table.
The coronavirus pandemic has forced the suspension of all leagues until April 30 at the earliest, although there is a growing acceptance that the wait for football to return could drag on even longer as the United Kingdom battles one of the worst health and economic crises in history.
Uncertainty still reigns regarding the ultimate impact the outbreak will have on the 2019-20 football season, with most clubs still wanting it to be completed but the threat of cancellation likely to grow the longer the postponement lasts.
Declaring the season null and void would be a huge blow to Liverpool, who boast a 25-point lead at the top of the table and are only six points away from securing their first top-flight crown since 1990.
The postponement has already denied Liverpool the chance to wrap up the title on the earliest date in Premier League history, but it is also likely to see them shatter the record for longest time spent at the top of the table in a single season.
Chelsea currently boast that accolade with a 274-day reign at the summit in 2014-15 but, as of March 28, Liverpool have been top for 224 days - just 50 days short of the record.
Premier League football will not return for 33 days at the very least, meaning that if the campaign is to be completed then Jurgen Klopp's side would almost certainly pass Chelsea's record and set a new mark which is unlikely to ever be equalled given the unprecedented circumstances of this season.
Liverpool would equal Chelsea's time on top on May 17, which was initially scheduled to be the final day of the campaign.
