Omar Malik joins the cast of Hollyoaks playing Sami's step-cousin Shaq.

Omar Malik has joined the cast of Hollyoaks playing Shaq, the step-cousin of Sami (Rishi Nair), it has been announced.

The character is expected to bring chaos when he arrives in the village on the run dressed in full Sherwani, having apparently done a runner on his wedding day.

Despite having seemingly ditched his fiancée, Shaq wastes no time in getting to know the single ladies of the village and also stumbles straight into a secret involving Sami.

"I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Maaliks as Shaq - bringing energy, charm and mischief to the Hollyoaks village," said Malik.

"The brilliant cast and crew went above any beyond to make me feel comfortable and relaxed. I love coming to work here at Hollyoaks, a proper family vibe.

"I hope everyone enjoys watching Shaq just as much as I enjoy playing him!"

Shaq's first appearance will come in this Friday's first-look episode of Hollyoaks on E4 at 7pm.
