UK broadcasters 'in bidding war for Harry and Meghan interview'

The BBC, ITV and Sky are reportedly competing for the rights to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The BBC, ITV and Sky are reportedly battling it out for the UK rights to show Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Earlier this month the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they will not be returning as working members of the Royal Family, almost one year on from their move to California.

Shortly afterwards they revealed that they will be giving an exclusive primetime TV interview to broadcasting giant Winfrey in a 90-minute programme due to be broadcast on Sunday, March 7.

According to Variety, Sky has submitted a bid for the programme but it is likely to be either the BBC or ITV that eventually secures the rights.

The publication does not mention Channel 5 - owned by the same company as CBS and with a pedigree of Royal-themed programming - although it specifically rules out interest from streamers Amazon and Netflix.

The interview, which was pre-recorded last week, will air at 8pm in the US, which will be at 1am in the UK - with the winning bidder likely to air the interview live and follow it up with a primetime showing on the night of Monday, March 8.
