Strong start for Michael McIntyre's The Wheel

New BBC gameshow The Wheel launches with 5.5 million viewers, according to early ratings data.

Michael McIntyre's new BBC gameshow The Wheel got off to a strong start in the ratings on Saturday night, according to early figures.

The new format, which sees McIntrye spin celebrities around on a giant wheel and ask them trivia questions, averaged 5.5 million viewers and a 27.9% audience share between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

On ITV at the same time, a non-live edition of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! drew 5.2 million (26.3%).

Elsewhere, Secrets of the Royal Art Collection pulled in 890,000 (4.9%) to Channel 5, while Channel 4's rerun of a documentary about the late Argentina legend Diego Maradona garnered 340,000 (2.8%).
