The Chase achieves record ratings as new Chaser makes debut

The Chase records its best ratings in 11 years as Darragh 'The Menace' Ennis makes his debut.

ITV's long-running quizshow The Chase recorded the highest ratings of its 11-year history this week as new Chaser Darragh Ennis made his debut.

The introduction of the sixth Chaser had been teased on the show for the last fortnight and the Irishman finally appeared for the first time on Thursday night's episode.

According to early ratings figures, the show pulled in a record 4.9 million viewers - a 34.4% share of the available TV audience - in the 5pm hour, with a peak of 5.8m (36%) during the final Chase.

The audience also represented the best daytime TV ratings recorded by any channel for non-news or sport programming in 2020 so far.

The Chase's previous record audience was set just one day earlier, with 4.8m watching the Wednesday episode.
