Whoopi Goldberg confirms Sister Act 3 plans

Whoopi Goldberg reveals that she is in active talks about completing a Sister Act trilogy.

Whoopi Goldberg has revealed that she is in active discussions about making a third Sister Act movie.

The original 1992 film starred Goldberg as a lounge singer put into witness protection and forced to join a group of nuns, played by the likes of Maggie Smith and Kathy Najimy.

The movie, which now has cult status, earned an impressive $231 million at the box office at the time, also spawning a 1993 sequel - Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit - and a West End musical.

Rumours of a third movie have been in circulation for some time, possibly for streaming service Disney+, and Goldberg has now confirmed that the project is very much alive.

"For a long time, they kept saying no-one wanted to see it. And then quite recently, it turns out, that that may not be true. People may want to see it," she told The Late Late Show.

"So we're working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.

"It's fun and it feels good. And you know, nobody's mad.

"It's just, listen - bad singing, great singing, okay singing and then nuns. What's better than that?"

Goldberg will next be seen in a timely new TV adaptation of Stephen King's post-apocalyptic novel The Stand.
