Frasier revival confirmed for Paramount+

Frasier is to return for a new series more than 17 years after the show ended, it is confirmed.

Kelsey Grammer will reprise his role as grumpy psychiatrist Frasier Crane in a revival of Frasier, it has been confirmed.

The comedy - a spinoff from Cheers - ran for 11 years between 1993 and 2004, peaking with more than 25 million viewers.

Rumours of the show's return have swirled for years but earlier this month it emerged that Grammer was in talks over a comeback with new streaming service Paramount+ and now the deal is done.

"Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I'd like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world," said Grammer.

"I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane."

Although Grammer is on board, there are not yet thought to be agreements in place with former co-stars David Hyde Pierce (Niles), Jane Leeves (Daphne) and Peri Gilpin (Roz) for the new series.

Filming is expected to begin this summer, with the new episodes due for release later this year or early in 2022.
