Ellen DeGeneres tests positive for coronavirus, show taken off air

Ellen DeGeneres reveals a positive test for coronavirus, prompting her talkshow to be taken off the air until January.

Ellen DeGeneres's talkshow has been taken off the air until 2021 after the host revealed a positive coronavirus diagnosis.

The 62-year-old has endured a tough year, with allegations of workplace misconduct behind the scenes leading to multiple executives being fired from the show.

DeGeneres herself also came in for some criticism but addressed the issues head on with staff and vowed to effect change when the long-running talkshow returned for its new season in September.

From October the show began welcoming a limited audience, as well as celebrity guests, back into the studio but now the whole production has been paused due to DeGeneres's diagnosis.

"I want to let you all know that I tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, I'm feeling fine right now," she wrote on social media.

"Anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified, and I am following all proper CDC guidelines. I'll see you all again after the holidays. Please stay healthy and safe."

The show is expected to return to the air in early January.
