Channel 5 to re-air 'The Golden Girls' from the start

Channel 5 is to air iconic US comedy The Golden Girls from the start.

Channel 5 has confirmed that it will air iconic comedy The Golden Girls from the beginning.

The US sitcom ran for seven seasons and 180 episodes between 1985 and 1992 and followed the lives of four elderly women living together in a house in Miami.

The show, which starred Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty, attracted around 30 million viewers at its peak and received 68 Emmy nominations during its run.

In the UK, The Golden Girls was first shown on Channel 4 and then repeated on the Disney Channel but has not been broadcast for several years.

Channel 5 have now picked up the rights, however, and will show the comedy on weekday lunchtimes beginning Monday, April 27 at 12.40pm.

White - now aged 98 - is the last surviving member of the four-strong cast.
