Bookers for Glastonbury are reportedly told that they will not be needed in 2021, suggesting that the festival is about to be cancelled.

Bookers of acts for Glastonbury have reportedly been told that they are not needed for 2021, suggesting that the festival is about to be cancelled for a second year in a row.

The 50th anniversary edition was due to take place this summer, with headliners including Sir Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift, but was called off in March due to the increasing horror of the coronavirus pandemic.

At the time the organisers said that ticket-holders for 2020 would be guaranteed entry in 2021 should it be safe for the festival to go ahead, but according to The Sun, that plan is now "all but over".

"The bookers have been told they're not needed for the summer," a source told the newspaper. "It's effectively postponing the festival for a second year running, which is absolutely gutting.

"They think the first festival of next year will be Reading, which is in August, and even that's unlikely."

McCartney has also suggested that next summer may be too soon for Glastonbury to take place, speculating that it may be as long as two years before the live music industry is able to get back to normal.
