Naomi Judd - one half of country music duo The Judds - dies unexpectedly at the age of 76.

Country music star Naomi Judd has died unexpectedly at the age of 76, her daughters Wynonna and Ashley have announced.

Together with Wynonna, Naomi was part of the musical duo The Judds, known for songs such as 'Girls' Night Out', 'Why Not Me' and 'Mama He's Crazy'.

In a statement on social media, Wynonna and Ashley wrote: "Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness.

"We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory."

The news comes a day before The Judds were due to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The Judds were also due to perform a farewell tour of the US later in the year.
