Get to know MasterChef 2024 contestant Rhys, including their age, profession and hopes for the competition.

Age: 31

From: Sheffield via Belfast

Occupation: Actor and writer

Cooking Style: "I enjoy cooking lots of different cuisines. I've volunteered at a cookery school that supports refugees and immigrants who arrive in the UK by helping them teach cookery classes from their home country. I loved tasting all the different cuisines from Iraq to Eritrea; Sri Lanka to Nigeria. I'd always go home after class and try to copy what I'd seen the cooks do!

"Nowadays, social media is probably my biggest influence, there are so many wonderful chefs out there that are sharing recipes and content, I could spend weeks going through them all and trying to recreate their dishes."

Why MasterChef?: "I entered because I thought it would be good fun! I want to become a better cook and test my skills. I'd also love to pursue a career in food."

Ambition: "I'd love to open up a street food business or a food truck. The real dream would be to have a job like Gregg and John, tasting wonderful food and hosting a show where you get to engage with people that are passionate about food!"

MasterChef continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
