'Hollyoaks' to continue filming but reduce episodes

Filming on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks is continuing for now but the broadcaster plans to reduce the number of weekly episodes from the end of the month.

Production on Hollyoaks will continue for the time being as the coronavirus crisis continues to impact on the UK.

While BBC soaps EastEnders and Doctors shut up shop on Tuesday night, the Channel 4 soap has followed ITV's Coronation Street and Emmerdale in continuing filming for now.

Nevertheless, Channel 4 plans to reduce the number of weekly episodes broadcast from five down to three from the end of the month so that the show can remain on air for as long as possible even in the event of a future production shutdown.

A spokesperson told The Sun: "As we continue to monitor the current situation and follow PHE advice in order to continue filming safely for the time being, we will make changes to the schedule so that from March 30th Hollyoaks episodes will be broadcast Monday to Wednesday on Channel 4 and E4.

"In the event that we have to take a break from filming we will look to revisiting some favourite episodes from recent years so Hollyoaks fans don't miss out."

The move is expected to keep Hollyoaks on screens until at least late June.
