A new Doctor Who spinoff centred at UNIT is reportedly in the works.

Jemma Redgrave will reportedly take centre stage in a new Doctor Who spinoff based at UNIT.

Since Russell T Davies returned as Who showrunner, he has suggested that the BBC's huge investment deal with Disney+ would herald the return of spinoff shows as part of a Marvel-style expansion of the franchise.

In the show, UNIT - the Unified Intelligence Taskforce - is an organisation tasked with identifying and dealing with any potential extra-terrestrial threats to Earth, and was originally run by fan-favourite character The Brigadier, played by the late Nicholas Courtney.

UNIT is now headed up by The Brigadier's daughter, Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, who has been played by Redgrave since 2012 and has featured in stories with every incarnation of The Doctor since.

Redgrave has been confirmed to star in Ncuti Gatwa's first full series of the Time Lord, due to air in early 2024, and The Mirror says that her appearance will serve as a springboard for the UNIT spinoff show.

Another spinoff, focusing on the monsters of Doctor Who such as the Daleks and Cybermen, is also believed to be in the works.

The BBC has yet to comment on the report.
