Dame Maureen Lipman says that her Coronation Street character Evelyn is set for a fresh fallout with her daughter Cassie.

Dame Maureen Lipman has revealed that her Coronation Street character Evelyn is about to have a fresh fallout with her daughter Cassie (Claire Sweeney).

Cassie - biological mother of Tyrone (Alan Halsall) - arrived in Weatherfield earlier this year harbouring a drugs problem, but eventually reconciled with her mother and is now in recovery from her addiction.

A recent storyline has seen Evelyn come up against a man called Terry, who had been ill-treating his dog, and in upcoming episodes she and Cassie will discover that he is running an illegal puppy farm.

"Cassie is a chip off the old block but to some degree an extended version of Evelyn," Lipman explained. "She goes too far and that endangers Evelyn's life and gets her into more trouble.

"Blood is thicker than water in Coronation Street but they do fall out over this, even though they are in it together, simply because she goes farther than Evelyn would have done."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
