Andy Murray: 'Nick Kyrgios will improve with experience'

Andy Murray believes that 20-year-old Nick Kyrgios will improve with experience, after highlighting the Australian's shot selection issues in their first round US Open clash.

Andy Murray has suggested that his US Open first-round opponent Nick Kyrgios will improve with experience, after highlighting the Australian's issues with shot selection.

The world number three secured victory over the 20-year-old in four sets after the Australian produced an erratic performance, including an unsuccessful lob at a crucial moment in the first set.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Murray said: "That obviously is a poor shot selection, which would suggest maybe he's not concentrating that well at that point. That's where you have to realise that and just try to play solid at that moment.

"I think that's something that comes with playing hundreds of matches on the tour, playing against a lot of different players, different personalities, you understand those moments better in the match.

"I felt like when he had his dips, I felt like I capitalised on them. I'd say the times when I played against him, I've done a pretty good job of just concentrating on my side."

Murray will take on Adrian Mannarino in the second round on Thursday.
