Exeter Chiefs leave it late to edge past Bath

Exeter Chiefs battle their way to a hard-earned 15-6 win over Bath in the LV= Cup.

Exeter Chiefs edged past Bath with a 18-6 victory in the LV= Cup thanks to second-half tries from Carl Rimmer and Moray Low.

Gavin Henson put the visitors ahead inside the opening two minutes when he slotted home a penalty from in front of the posts.

The Chiefs struggled to find a way through a strong Bath defence in the first 40 minutes, but they were handed a route back into the game shortly before the break and Gareth Steenson duly obliged as he kicked home three points for Exeter.

13 minutes after the restart, Henson kicked another three points for Bath to put them back in the lead and came close to extending their lead to six points shortly after, but his penalty rebounded off the crossbar.

However, the home crowd roared their side on and a determined maul from Exeter ended in Rimmer grounding to hand the Chiefs the lead for the first time in the match.

Exeter made sure of the win five minutes from time as Low rounded off a slick move which spanned the width of the pitch.
