The BBC appoints Sally Wood to the newly-created role of commissioning editor for pop music TV.

The BBC has announced that Sally Wood has been appointed to the newly-created role of commissioning editor for pop music TV.

Wood has an extensive resume, having previously worked for the BBC on events such as Glastonbury and the Electric Proms between 2003 and 2010, before leaving to head up projects including the Brit Awards, V Festival and Isle of Wight Festival.

In her new role, working under the BBC's controller of pop Lorna Clarke, she will be responsible for commissioning programmes about pop music for the BBC's TV channels - including the relaunched BBC Three - as well as for iPlayer and digital.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be returning to the broadcaster that was so influential and nurturing during the earlier stages of my career," she said. "The BBC has always been a pioneer when it comes to bringing popular music to the nation and it is an immense privilege to be joining Lorna and the team.

"My goal is to cast my net wide across our vibrant and diverse popular music industry to discover exciting and invigorating new content, while maintaining the phenomenally high levels of programming that viewers are already familiar with."

Wood takes up the position early next year.
