BritBox announces that it has passed the 500,000 subscriber milestone in the UK.

BritBox has announced that it has passed 500,000 UK subscribers, 16 months on from its launch.

The service, which combines a wealth of archive content from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, was buoyed by an exclusive reboot of Spitting Image towards the end of 2020.

The impressive subscription figures were confirmed as part of ITV's latest financial results, which listed Broadchurch, Only Fools and Horses, Love Island and Doctor Who as BritBox's most popular titles.

"It's been a great first year on BritBox, with all of the UK PSBs on board and the launch of our BritBox Originals strategy with Spitting Image," said ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall.

"Achieving half a million subscriptions in little over a year from launch puts BritBox ahead of plan and firmly establishes the service in the UK OTT market."

Separately, BritBox has confirmed that it will soon become available through Amazon Prime Video Channels, meaning that it will be accessible through a greater range of devices, including Sky Q.
