Barry Douglas 'excited' to get going at Wolverhampton Wanderers

New Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Barry Douglas is relishing the chance to battle for regular playing time at Championship level after ending his spell with Konyaspor.

Barry Douglas has revealed that he was attracted to Wolverhampton Wanderers by the ambition on show, having joined from Turkish club Konyaspor on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old had been closing in on a switch to Molineux in the past few days, as new boss Nuno Espirito Santo continues to strengthen his playing ranks.

A deal has now been agreed to bring Douglas back to British football, following a spell of four years combined with Lech Poznan and Konyaspor upon leaving Dundee United in 2013.

Speaking to his new club's official website, the Glasgow-born full-back admits that he "cannot wait" to prove himself and potentially force his way into the side.

"I am happy to be here and can't wait to get going," he said. "I know Wolves are a big club and that this is an exciting challenge for me. They are going through a transformation at the moment and getting involved in that appealed to me.

"I share the ambition to play at the highest level possible and at a club like Wolves the opportunity is there to push for promotion and play in the Premier League. No one can come and expect to play in the team – I will work my socks off and once I am in it is up to me to then show what I do.

"I am optimistic but I need to get bedded in. I am coming here to stake a claim to play and get as many games as I can and help the team achieve. Nuno was one of the big appealing factors. To be able to work under a manager of his calibre - he will maybe have some different views to other managers and it will be exciting.

"It is a new project that a lot of guys won't have seen at Wolves. I like to be offensive as a defender and I think it will be a match made in heaven with the way the gaffer wants to play. Hopefully it will all click and we will do well."

Douglas has racked up more than 200 career appearances in his nine-year senior career, which began with a stint at Queen's Park.
