Rennes end with nine men as Valenciennes beat them 4-1 in Ligue 1.

Valenciennes have got the better of Rennes 4-1 at home in Ligue 1 as the visitors ended the game with just nine men.

Rennes made the breakthrough at Stade du Hainaut on the half-hour mark through Jonathan Pitroipa, who shot home from the centre of the box after being released by Sadio Diallo.

However, Rennes's lead lasted for just nine minutes as Maor Melikson equalised for Valenciennes, heading home Gael Danic's free kick from close range.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men just before the half-hour mark when Dimitri Foulquier was sent off for a second bookable offence, and his teammate John Boye followed him soon for a straight red card following a bad challenge on Remi Gomis.

Valenciennes took advantage of their numerical superiority and regained their lead in the 68th minute when Lindsay Rose headed in Danic's corner.

Kenny Lala virtually wrapped up the win and the three points for the home team seven minutes from full time, turning in Mathieu Dossevi's pass with his left foot from the right side of the Rennes box.

Jose Saez added the icing on the cake in the second minute of injury time when he scored Valenciennes's fourth goal of the match with a long-range effort.
