Matthias Ginter - linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid - says that he is still open to signing a new contract with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Matthias Ginter has insisted that he is still open to signing a new contract with Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 27-year-old's existing deal with his German club is due to expire at the end of June 2022, and Barcelona and Real Madrid are both believed to be interested in signing the Germany international.

Ginter has revealed that he is yet to be offered an extension, but the centre-back 'can imagine' remaining with the Bundesliga outfit despite the current uncertainty.

"There has not yet been an offer for a contract extension, because I also know about the difficulties that Covid-19 means for all clubs. So we have to wait and see. You will see what it will look like. Basically, I can also imagine staying with Borussia," GInter told RedaktionsNetzwerks Deutschland.

The defender, who has made seven appearances for Gladbach at the start of the 2021-22 campaign, moved to Borussia-Park from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to be showing an interest in his services.
