Sheffield Wednesday snatch a point at Bournemouth

Chris Maguire's stoppage-time penalty earns Sheffield Wednesday a 2-2 draw away at Bournemouth.

Bournemouth have been denied a return to the top of the Championship table by a 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

The home side struggled to create much early on as the game was broken up by two lengthy injury stoppages.

However, they almost fell behind in the 23rd minute as Artur Boruc was forced into two saves to keep out Kieran Lee's shot and Jacques Maghoma's rebound.

Lee made amends 13 minutes later as he put the away side ahead with a powerful header from Lewis Buxton's cross.

Bournemouth almost equalised just before half time as Harry Arter forced the keeper into a flying save to tip his shot over the bar, before Tommy Elphick narrowly headed over from a corner.

Elphick went close with a second header shortly after the break, before Wednesday almost doubled their lead as Chris Maguire struck the post with a fierce free kick.

The Cherries did find the equaliser in the 69th minute as Yann Kermorgant headed in Matt Ritchie's cross at the near post.

The home side were reduced to 10 men shortly after, though, as Simon Francis was sent off for a second bookable offence.

However, they rallied and found a second goal as Ritchie fired the ball into the back of the net from a free kick.

Wednesday came within inches of equalising when Lavery stretched to get his toe to a low cross with the goal gaping, and they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Atdhe Nuhiu, which Maguire slotted deep into added time.
