Southampton beat Hull City with confident display

Southampton continue their good start to the Premier League season with a convincing win against Hull City.

Southampton have beaten Hull City to continue their strong start to the Premier League season.

Neither side could create a clear opening in the first 10 minutes, although Southampton looked the more likely to score as Jose Fonte had the ball nicked off him when he looked to shoot from a corner.

Indeed it was the home side who took the lead soon after. After Hull had failed to clear a cross, Morgan Schneiderlin headed in for his first goal of the season.

The Saints continued to look the more threatening, with Hull just able to clear a succession of crosses.

That pressure paid off with the home side's second of the game when Rickie Lambert powered home a penalty.

Hull's poor afternoon continued, but Southampton's third goal was all down to the individual skill of Adam Lallana, who beat three defenders before curling the ball in.

The Tigers found a way back into the game early in the second half when Victor Wanyama lost the ball on the edge of his own area and Yannick Sagbo curled it into the corner.

Tom Huddlestone then picked up a loose ball just outside the box and directed a left-footed volley at goal. His attempt went straight to Artur Boruc, however.

Lallana almost restored the home side's three goal lead but, after exchanging passes with Lambert, Steve Harper pushed his shot wide.

However, Steven Davis made it four with a composed finish.
