Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui admits that his side need to improve "in all facets" following their 4-2 UEFA Super Cup defeat to Atletico Madrid in Estonia.

Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui has admitted that his side need to improve "in all facets" after their 4-2 loss to city rivals Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.

Lopetegui watched his side lose in extra time of his first match since succeeding Zinedine Zidane as manager, with Atletico coming from behind to lift the trophy at Real's expense.

The game was also Real's first since selling club-record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lopetegui stressed the need for improvement having shipped four goals - a fate which did not befall Madrid once during Zidane's tenure.

"We are not happy and the negative is that we have conceded four goals and this is not normal. This will have to be improved, without a doubt," Lopetegui told AS in his post-match conference.

"We have to improve in all facets, we do not like when we make mistakes and we have to improve in everything, not only in individual errors.

"[It is a] feeling of frustration and sadness. But knowing that responsibility forces us to get up and try to improve and start the league as we want to start."

Real next play Getafe on Saturday, their opening La Liga game of the post-Ronaldo era.
