Alan Archibald, Tommy Wright back match abandonment

Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald and St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright agree that the referee was right to abandon their Scottish Premiership match.

Alan Archibald and Tommy Wright have both backed referee Kevin Clancy's decision to abandon the Scottish Premiership match between Partick Thistle and St Johnstone this afternoon.

Torrential rain at Maryhill had made conditions unplayable when Clancy decided to call off the game in the interest of player safety.

Partick manager Archibald told reporters: "We've now got a booking and injury, so I would probably say now that it shouldn't have started.

"As players and managers you just want the game to go ahead. Before the game I was saying 'get the game on' as well, but now the downside of that is we've got injuries. So it was probably the right decision."

The visiting manager added: "We had it explained to us before the game that he thought the pitch was playable, and I think it was, but as the half went on, particularly the far side got worse. [Clancy] said he would assess it as the game went on, that's what he's done and he's made the correct decision."

Partick are currently ninth in the table, while St Johnstone sit sixth.
